I am so excited to let you know that this summer, May 30th – June 2nd, we will be attending CrossTimbers Children’s Mission Adventure Camp in Davis, Oklahoma. CrossTimbers was founded by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma in 2008 out of a combination of Camp Nunny Cha-ha and Camp Hudgens. The camp exists to support local church efforts to reach lost children in their communities and to raise up a generation of kids with an authentic walk with God who actively serve others with missional living. This will be for kiddos who have completed grades 3rd-6th.
What does a week at Crosstimbers look like? Each day at Crosstimbers begins with scripture memory. Shortly after breakfast is a worship time with a camp pastor in an open air chapel. Throughout the week, kids learn about what it means to follow Christ and how people are living on mission in their communities, in our state, and around the world through the mission stops.
Kids will also have several adventure experiences throughout the week. The ropes course allows them to try different elements depending on what they are comfortable with. The water-front features water inflatables, kayaks, and a “wipe-out” type course. Finally, the “targets” area includes sling shots, bow and arrows, water balloons, and of course gaga ball! After each activity, there is an applicable Gospel presentation to go along with the adventure.
At night, students participate in large group games, hear from the camp pastor, and have “tribal time” with students their age and a camp staffer who facilitates the discussion based on that night’s message.
As a teacher, I know the importance of kids having a schedule and having activities built specifically for them and CrossTimbers does just that. I know this firsthand as I not only had the privilege of serving at CrossTimbers two summers as a camp staffer, serving on the mission and worship teams, but I have also taken kids there four different summers as a sponsor.
Here is some important information regarding camp:
- Parent & Camper Meeting – hear an overview of camp and complete all paperwork
- Camp: May 30th – June 2nd
- Cost: $165
I am so excited to see what God is going to do through the group we take. I know there may be many questions since this is a new camp so please feel free to reach out!
