Students to participate in 30 Hour Famine

April 4, 2010

What is the 30 Hour Famine?

The students of FBCER will be participating in our first ever 30 Hour Famine on April 9th-10th. 30 Hour Famine, sponsored by World Vision, is a worldwide movement of students who are serious about serving God and fighting hunger – all on an empty stomach.  For 30 hours, participants get a taste of hunger by not eating – something more than a billion people around the world experience every day. And by doing fundraising activities, community service projects, and learning more about the facts of world hunger, students are changed in amazing ways as they help others and save lives.

How do you get involved?

For Adults: We have several ways for the adults of our church to get involved. First, you can pray for our students during the weekend. Pray that their lives are changed during the course of the weekend. Secondly, we will be doing a car wash on Saturday in the church parking lot from 11:00am-1:00pm. All the proceeds from the car wash will go to world hunger. Thirdly, we will collecting aluminum cans. You can bring those to the church by Wednesday for we can come pick them up from your house between 2:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday.

For Students: All students 6th-12th grade are encouraged to attend this weekend! We will meet at the Youth Center on Friday at 5:30pm and be done on Saturday at 7:30pm. The cost is only $10 which will include a t-shirt, water and juice for the weekend and a feast at the end of the event. Due to the intense nature of the event we ask that students only bring the following items  a sleeping bag and pillow (no air maitresses or cots), clothes for the car wash and a bible. There will not be an opportunity for a shower so most of those items will not be necessary. Since we will not be taking showers, we do not believe a change of clothes will be necessary either. Just make sure you wear comfortable and durable clothes.  A parent consent is form is required for every student attending the weekend. You can pick one of those up at the Youth Center or the Youth Annex.
